Stacked Bitcoin
A Bitcoin-only New Zealand exchange built around Lightning, so you can buy and move your coins in seconds for almost nothing.
The best deal on the board right now. That can change minute to minute, so check the rates page before a big purchase.
Every fee, start to finish
Every cost between your bank and a wallet you control, in Bitcoin rather than dollars, because buy prices differ. Each fee links to the page Stacked Bitcoin publishes it on. The spread is the exception: nobody publishes that, so we measure it against a weighted global spot price.
In plain English
How far Stacked Bitcoin’s buy price sits above the weighted global spot price. No exchange publishes this, so we measure it: it is the gap between what a Bitcoin costs on the world market and what they charge for one. A negative figure means they are below spot. 1% when you pay through Akahu, POLi or EFTPOS. It becomes 2% if you pay by manual bank transfer. No separate FX fee. Stacked prices Bitcoin in US dollars and converts at its own rate; its fees page says foreign exchange costs are covered by the flat 1%. NZ$0.20 per payment when you pay through Akahu. POLi costs about 1% (capped near NZ$3.45) and EFTPOS 1% (capped at NZ$3). A manual bank transfer is free, but the service fee doubles to 2%. Your Bitcoin is delivered straight to your own wallet, over Lightning or on-chain, as part of the purchase. There is no separate withdrawal. All told, NZ$100 is worth 0.00069453 BTC at the world market price and 0.00068535 BTC lands in your wallet, so 0.00000918 BTC goes in costs: 1.32% all-in.
Signing up and verifying your ID usually takes ten minutes and is a one-off. After that a bank transfer clears the same day, often within the hour, and your Bitcoin is bought the moment it lands.
You can send your coins to a wallet you control the moment you buy, over Lightning for almost nothing, or on-chain for larger amounts. We recommend doing that rather than leaving Bitcoin on any exchange.
Against the other NZ exchanges
Same NZ$100, same minute. The difference is how much Bitcoin you’d gain or lose by buying there instead of here.
